What do we know so far about the Star 5114?

Tracing back the history of a star class is fortunately easier than for any other boat. The star class is the oldest one design class organisation and probably the origin of any other later class association. It was from the very beginning international oriented. All stars, wherever they are built and sailed on the world have a single running number. The national registration is done with the international number. The I.S.C.Y.R.A. (International Star Class Yacht Racing Association) publishes every year the “Log”, in which a list of all registered Stars, the name of the owner, the boat yard, the year of the launch can be found.

What do we know from the “Log” about our star 5114?

No. 5114 was owned by “Wilfried Lippert” and given the name “Aquila. No. 5114 was registered by the TSC Berlin. The star was build in 1966 by “LEU”, the abreviation of the boat yard “E. Lerch & R. Uhlemann”, Berlin Friedrichshagen (German Democratic Republic / DDR)”.

Wilfried Lippert became a very successful dinghy sailor and won several times the 10m²-dinghy (H-Jolle) championship of the DDR and the German championship of the Olymic Dinghy (O-Jolle). We could not find any information about this boatyard and Wilfried Lippert informed us that the star 5114 was built with the License of Lerch & Uhlemann by the FES.

“Aquila” was one of a series of 3 stars built by the FES in 1966:

5112 “Mingo”, 5113 “Alcora”, 5114 “Aquila” (5112 and 5113 in the Rostock Fleet).

The FES is a technical scientific institute, founded in the DDR for the development and optimisation of sport kits in various disciplines.

If anyone knows more about the 5114, was former owner of the star or knows former owners, has pictures or other information, please do not hesitate to contact us, e.g. via our Email Info@starclassics.org. Thanks for your help and your support.
