The refit of the wooden stars is handled by “Jugend in Arbeit e.V”., a non profit organisation for the professional training and education of unemployed young people. The young men and women are trained
in wooden boat construction and restoration, machinery and mechanics, metal works and welding.
The organisation is famous for the professional refit and restoration of classic yachts and boats.
Fine examples of the extraordinary know-how and craftsmen skills are the 12mR “Heti” or the wooden pilot schooner “No.5 Elbe” or the classic yawl “Artemis”.
Most of the projects are documented on their web-site. The web-site is in German language, but never-the-less an absolute “must” for every ship-lover.
The large crafts are maintained and operated by the “Stiftung Hamburg Maritim”, a famous non-profit organisation, founded to keep the marine heritage of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg alive.
